How to package objects for examination

Why separate packaging, preservation of microparticles, the chain of custody and descriptions of objects matter.

Why packaging matters

Fibres, microparticles and coating particles are easily transferred and contaminated. Objects therefore need to be packaged separately, without shaking, cleaning or mixing them with other items.

  • each object separately;
  • preserve the original condition;
  • record the place of discovery;
  • describe the packaging and chain of custody;
  • do not use adhesive materials unnecessarily.
Inquiry

Send a description of the objects and materials

You can send photographs of the objects, a ruling, court order, opinion for review, draft questions and information about packaging and comparison samples.

  • fibres, fabrics, threads, clothing, upholstery;
  • paint materials and coatings;
  • microparticles and contact traces;
  • vehicle paintwork and road accident traces;
  • report review and questions for court.

How data is processed: Personal Data Processing Policy. Attach only the materials needed; where possible, conceal unnecessary data about other people.

For physical objects, it is important to preserve the packaging, keep objects stored separately and retain information about sample provenance.

Attachments: up to 10 files of up to 10 MB each, with a maximum combined size of 15 MB. If a file is rejected, the enquiry is not sent.
